Emergency Dentistry

Pain today? We can usually see you today or tomorrow. Same-day emergency appointments available — call (585) 335-2120.

Dental emergencies don’t wait for a convenient time. A toothache that wakes you up. A crown that pops off before work. A chipped tooth at your kid’s game. We’re here for that.

We hold time on the schedule every day for emergencies. When you call, we listen, ask a few quick questions, and get you in — most of the time the same day.

The goal is simple: get you out of pain, fix what we can right now, and lay out a clear plan for anything that needs follow-up. No upsell, no surprises.

When Every Minute Matters

Dental pain takes over your day. You can’t eat, can’t sleep, can’t focus. You shouldn’t have to wait days or weeks for relief — and at A Smile By Design, you don’t.

Our team has handled dental emergencies for Dansville families for 30+ years. We know how to triage fast, work calmly, and treat you like a neighbor — because most of you are.

Whether it’s draining an infection, stabilizing a broken tooth, or planning a full repair, we’ll move quickly and explain every step. You’ll leave knowing exactly what happened and what comes next.

Common Dental Emergencies We Treat

Severe Toothache

Sharp, persistent pain that's keeping you up or making it hard to function.

Broken or Chipped Tooth

A fall, a hard bite, or a sports hit — we'll repair it and protect what's left.

Knocked-Out Tooth

Time matters. Bring the tooth in milk and call us on the way — we'll do everything we can to save it.

Abscess or Infection

Swelling, pus, or a bad taste in your mouth needs attention before it spreads.

Lost Filling or Crown

Sensitivity, sharp edges, or a hole where there used to be a fix — we'll get it covered.

Soft Tissue Injury

Cuts or trauma to gums, lips, or tongue that won't stop bleeding.

Emergency Care Questions

Severe pain, swelling, bleeding that won’t stop, a knocked-out or fractured tooth, a lost crown or filling, or signs of infection like pus or fever — all emergencies. If you’re not sure, call us at (585) 335-2120. We’d rather hear from you and tell you it can wait than have you tough out something that shouldn’t be ignored.

Most callers are seen the same day or the next morning. We hold emergency time on the schedule every day for exactly this reason. Call (585) 335-2120 — if you’re in pain right now, we’ll work you in.

For pain, take ibuprofen or acetaminophen as directed and use a cold compress on the outside of your cheek. For a knocked-out tooth, rinse it gently (don’t scrub the root), keep it in milk or saliva, and bring it with you. For a broken tooth, rinse with warm salt water and save any pieces. Avoid chewing on that side until we see you.

We do everything we can to make true emergencies work. Call (585) 335-2120 — if the office is closed, our after-hours message will point you to the on-call contact. For severe facial swelling, trouble breathing, or trauma to the head or jaw, go to the ER first and we’ll follow up from there.

Most dental plans cover emergency exams, X-rays, and treatment at least in part. We’ll verify your benefits before treatment when we can and give you a clear estimate up front. We accept most major insurances and offer simple payment options if cost is a concern. Pain relief shouldn’t have to wait for paperwork.

After the Emergency, There's a Plan

Most emergencies need follow-up — a permanent crown, a root canal completion, or a longer-term repair. We’ll handle it all here. Learn about restorative dentistry to see what comes next.
